Do not be vague when writing a thesis statement. Make sure to include the why behind your reasoning. For instance poor specificity would go something like this: “Students must not be given excessive homework.” This is too vague and may not capture the interest of the reader. Give your reader the chance to choose whether or not they should read any further. An example of good specificity would be ‘Due to the fact that excessive homework interferes with a student’s ability to absorb knowledge, schools must not burden the students with overwhelming homework.’

To sum everything up, thesis is the decisive point for any reader. If it is strong, arguable, specific, follows the ‘although and actually’ format, you are sure to make an impression. Make sure to avoid lists and write to-the-point. Do not give everything away but do not hold back too much. Give some information in your thesis, hint at the rest, arousing curiosity among the reader.
